The MDAO’s Conviction Integrity Unit (CIU) was created to minimize the impact of cognitive biases and respond to such claims in a fair, efficient, and comprehensive manner, thereby enhancing the MDAO’s ability to uphold its commitment and obligation to pursue justice, fairness, and truth within the criminal justice system, even after a defendant has been convicted. The CIU diligently reviews and investigates cases to identify and rectify wrongful convictions. Through this process, the CIU aims to further public trust in the judicial process and ensure that justice prevails for all.
